Vote for Traffic Calming by June 27

With your support, Hearst Avenue can get even safer this year. Our group, Friends of Slow Hearst, got a traffic safety project included in our D7 Participatory Budgeting suite of projects. Please vote here for Project #10 “Traffic calming and added crosswalks on Hearst Ave.”

All D7 residents are allowed to vote in the Participatory Budgeting process. Every project that receives 400 votes will be funded.

Background
We would like to improve safety for people walking and biking on Hearst Avenue. While Hearst Avenue is a Slow Street and a designated bikeway, many individuals still drive vehicles recklessly, which endanger the people walking and biking along the street. Painted crosswalks and speed humps would deter reckless driving and create more visibility for vulnerable road users.

Details
If approved, the project would add two speed humps to Hearst Avenue and new crosswalks at the following intersections:

  • Hearst and Baden

  • Hearst and Congo

  • Hearst and Detroit

  • Hearst and Ridgewood
